If you have your own Simple Sabotage story – something you’ve experienced or witnessed that is similar to what we have described – we’d love to hear about it. Feel free to briefly (and anonymously!) share your story below in the text box. We’ll review it, edit it when appropriate, post it, and occasionally add a comment or two. When we see patterns, or have some occasional conclusions that are worth noting, we might included it in a subsequent commentary. NEXT ACTION STEPS? “BRILLIANT!”
The non-profit I work for is populated with some PhDs at the top. They seem to love talking more than anything else. After joining the organization I noticed that meetings never seemed to issue in any decisions or actions. I gently suggested that at the end of each meeting they call for “next action steps.” The founder looked at me, paused, and exclaimed “That’s brilliant!” They later dropped the new habit and now have more meetings than ever.
